WATCHMAN RISE AND BUILD! Global Awakening Summit
Journey to Herrnhut 11 – 18 August 2017
"I have set watchmen on your walls, O Jerusalem; They shall never hold their peace day or night.
You who make mention of the Lord, do not keep silent, and give Him no rest till He establishes and till He makes Jerusalem a praise in the earth."
Isaiah 62:7-8
“That in the dispensation of the fullness of the times He might gather together in one all things in Christ,
both which are in heaven and which are on earth—in Him.”
Ephesians 1:10
Visionary Call: "Gather My wheat into the barn, there I will meet with them
and sow them into the nations!"
and sow them into the nations!"
In 1722 Count Nicholas von Zinzendorf left his law studies in Dresden to spend more time on his estate in Berthelsdorf, Germany. Here he desired to establish a model Christian community. By request of an itinerant carpenter, Christian David, and the desire to unite the body of Christ in spiritual peace, Zinzendorf opened the area to persecuted Protestants from Moravia and Bohemia (modern day Czechoslovakia).1 Factions included Lutherans, Schwenkfelders, Separatists, Reformed, and Brethren, lived side by side.2
After a few serious squabbles had erupted between the varying sects represented, Count Von Zinzendorf began going from house to house, counseling with each family from the scriptures. A spirit of cooperation and love began to work among the residents, leading to the signing of the “Brotherly Agreement” (a set of manorial rules for life at Herrhut.) Because of the connection and love among them, they became a community united in committed ongoing corporate prayer that drew the attention of the Lord.
On Wednesday, August 13, 1727, God responded. A powerful manifestation of the Spirit came upon the people, leading to over 150 years of on-going prayer and over 3000 missionaries sent to the nations bringing the gospel of good news. The settlement was named Herrnhut, which means “the Watch of the Lord” or “the Lord’s Watch.” A fitting name for a community committed to corporate prayer.
In these troubled and turbulent times, now 290 years later, the eyes of nations once again are turning to what happened in Herrnhut. What was in this community environment that inspired and sustained a revival lasting decades, and ignited a modern day missions movement? The "Watchman Rise and Build" Global Awakening Summit is calling representatives from across the nations to "Re-dig the well of revival." For such a time as this, those coming are being called to experience the culture and values of Herrnhut in worship and prayer, examine the "spiritual DNA" from its revival history and carry its seed back to their communities. Participants will have a specific call and mandate/responsibility to carry this seed to their communities to see it grow and multiply. It is now time for the message and mission of Herrnhut to multiply and influence communities, churches, and houses of prayer across the nations of the earth.
A visionary scripture behind this gathering is John 12:24, "Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds." In pursuing obedience towards the gathering in Herrnhut, each step has been marked by amazing confirmations from the Lord. Our firm commitment and desire has been to follow Him. As a result, "Only God could do" confirmations have followed. It is worthwhile reviewing "in brief" how the Lord has led us to this gathering in Herrnhut. "Remembering" His confirmations lay important spiritual foundations for the gathering.
Visionary History:
The Beginning:
The call to Herrnhut has been a process over several years. In sensing the time for needed collaboration, a small group of ministry leaders met at the All Nations Christian Conference Center in London, England, August 2015. At that meeting, sensing the timing was right, the vision for a Global Watch was released. (For a visionary history of the Global Watch click here. The GW carries a significant history in and of itself.) Several attending the gathering caught the vision and committed to begin the process of working on the construct. God confirmed the call to the Global Watch at that meeting by Big Ben ticking ahead 6 seconds. It made national news and was a significant sign as Big Ben is a symbol of international time. It is time for the "Watch." Big Ben also carries significant weight in the history behind the formation of the Global Watch.
Confirmations:
Proceeding from the London gathering, those working on the vision and mission for the Global Watch supernaturally uncovered generational ties to Herrnhut. A God inspired “suddenly” sent us plunging into the pages of history where generations linked us back to the outpouring of Herrnhut and the missions movement that emanated from it. The revelation hit that we were possibly uncovering a very real convergence of God’s intent. Suddenly the words of Isaiah 58:12 became a driving force and confirmation for the gathering in Herrnhut and foundation for the Global Watch, “Those from among you shall build the old waste places; You shall raise up the foundations of many generations, and you shall be called the Repairer of the Breach, the Restorer of Streets to Dwell in.” What if God was calling what happened in a small village in Germany, a seed that had fallen to the ground and seemingly died, to now live and be released to influence the world? What if gathering in Herrnhut on the 290 year anniversary was not only a good idea but a God ordained plan to re-dig the well of revival there and spread it to the nations of the earth?
The Lord sent us on a fore-running mission trip to Herrnhut, April 2016, to investigate that very possibility. Upon our arrival in Herrnhut, we ran into a diplomatic party. Our host told us it was the President of Germany, Joachim Gauck. We ended up meeting him face to face at the tomb of Count von Zinzendorf. When he heard of our purpose for being in Herrnhut, he hugged and welcomed us into Germany. It was an only “God could do” moment confirming His intent for our being there. The circumstances were so profound we knew it was a stamp of God’s approval for the Global Watch and the gathering in Herrnhut.
Consequently, the Journey to Herrnhut 2017 has begun.
The Global Watch is privileged to serve as part of the hosting team. Our desire is for seeds of destiny and purpose in the attendees, as well as the spiritual DNA of Herrnhut to be embraced and carried forward. Core to the vision of the Global Watch is a call to "Watch!" and build a culture of prayer and community that will inspire connection across our cities, regions and nations. Today, the hunger for community within corporate, committed prayer is inspiring and reinvigorating "Encounter" driven prayer environments. The construct of the Global Watch (USA Watch and other national watches that arise) is unique in that it does not interfere with personal call, established vision or leadership structure. It is a grassroots call to build community in prayer to inspire environments for people to "Encounter God," on a regular basis. The Moravians carried keys for this ongoing "Encounter" with God. The journey has begun, and the pages going forward are yet to be written. The preparation has already started. The Watchmen are being called. Those responding to this call will be part of God's plan to usher in the end-time harvest and the Church into its finest hour. The journey is before us, "And the Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let him who hears say, “Come!” And let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely." Revelation 22:17
