Hamas of the Bible
Did you know Hamas is in the Bible? Well it is...in multiple places that reflect its meaning. “Hamas,” which translates literally as “zeal,” is an Arabic acronym for the “Islamic resistance movement.” The group was founded in 1987, in Gaza, as an offshoot of the Muslim Brotherhood, a prominent Sunni group based in Egypt (1). Hamas is an acronym of the Arabic phrase حركة المقاومة الإسلامية or Ḥarakah al-Muqāwamah al-ʾIslāmiyyah, meaning "Islamic Resistance Movement". This acronym, HMS, was later glossed in the 1988 Hamas Covenant[94] by the Arabic word ḥamās (حماس) which itself means "zeal", "strength", or "bravery" (2).
