The Daniel 10 Call to Fast
July 20-August 10, 2019
As you may be aware, California has experienced a series of significant earthquakes. The quake, happening on the 4th of July, carries an undeniable timing that should draw our attention. Headlines in the LA Times Saturday, July 13, 2019, stated, "Ridgecrest earthquake packed the power of 45 nuclear bombs." Over the past 7 days, the earthquake activity has risen to three times normal globally. (For more information click here) Has that got your attention? It is amazing that there was not more damage. Had the earthquake hit Los Angeles, or San Francisco, the damage could have been untold. Surely, this is a sign of His mercy.
We believe the earthquake was a sign of His mercy but also His "Awakening." We are in a window of grace to respond. From the region of the earthquake, we urge your prayerful consideration in participating in a Daniel 10 fast for our nation(s) as the Pacific Rim is now involved. The quake happening on the 4th of July is a sign. Its repercussions continue to reverberate. Though threats loom, the time is now for salvation and harvest. But it must be contended for. Chapter 10 of Daniel expresses well the hour we are in and the purpose for this call to pray and fast.

Chapter 10 of Daniel expresses well the hour we are in and the purpose for this call to pray and fast.
Why a fast?
We are in times of increasing intensity, and spiritual shaking. With escalation of tensions in the Middle East, earthquakes, and eruption of concerns towards Iran, we invite your participation in this fast modeled after Daniel 10. It was in this chapter that Daniel's humbling of himself in prayer and fasting led him to an encounter with the Angel who would fight the prince of Persia. The encounter, as recorded in Daniel, is the longest end-time narrative in the Bible and a framework of reference for the times we are now in.
Daniel chapter 10, opens with an expression of mourning and concern for his Jewish brethren in Jerusalem. His distress led him to fast pleasant food, meat and wine, Dan 10:2-3. What was he mourning over? From Daniel 10:1, we know the time was the third year of Cyrus, King of Persia. This places the time as 536 BC. Cyrus' reign began in 539. In 538 BC, Cyrus released the Jewish captives to go back to Israel. There they commenced to rebuild the temple and Jerusalem but were met with much resistance, Ezra 4. Daniel's mourning and call to fast was catalyzed by his concern for their condition, their spiritual life, and fulfillment of their God-given purpose. In a similar fashion, Joshua called the people to sanctify (Josh 3:5) and consecrate themselves (Josh 5:3) before they moved to fight for the promised land. We too are a people, like Daniel, being prepared to see accurately, contend, and fight for the last frontiers of the spiritual harvest and the end-time glory of the church.
Why fast? The Daniel 10 call...some reasons from the text:
Release of Repentance: Daniel's mourning led to deep conviction that put him on his face, Dan 10:9. The repentant heart created a vessel that God entrusted with significant end time revelation, Dan 10:19. The encounter with the angel led to the longest end-time narrative in the Bible.
Renewed reverence for and fear of the Lord. When we cry holy, it will resonate deep in our bones and move us beyond just the sound, and out of any stronghold of the fear of man. The fear of the Lord will rise. "Suddenly, a hand touched me, which made me tremble on my knees and on the palms of my hands," Dan 10:10.
Release of heavenly activity: When we fast, angelic activity is activated. We are in times that will require supernatural intervention. The upheaval in nations and uprising in Iran, in particular, are all indications of heavenly activity. "I lifted my eyes and looked, and behold, a acertain man clothed in linen whose waist was girded with gold of Uphaz!" Dan 10:4.

Receptivity to the love of the Lord: Through fasting obstacles that hinder receiving His love will be removed. Obstacles frequently encountered include rejection, intimidation, fear of man, pride covering insecurity. "And he said to me, 'O Daniel man greatly beloved,'" Daniel 10:11.
Renewed strength: We can all grow weary, even live with areas of dryness, or dormancy in our spiritual lives due to the cares of this world. Fasting releases new and even hidden strength. "O man greatly beloved, fear not! Peace be to you, be strong, yes, be strong!" Daniel received and responded, "Let my lord speak, for you have strengthened me,"
Dan. 10:10.
Revelation and sharpened spiritual discernment: This chapter begins a long discussion with this angelic being, the fifth of Daniel's visions. Its content is a guidepost to end-time study. The angel said to Daniel, "But I will tell you what is noted in the Scripture of Truth." Dan 10:21. "But you, Daniel, shut up the words and seal the book until the time of the end, many shall run to and fro and knowledge shall increase," Dan 12:4.
We believe this fast will not only strengthen us individually, but catalyze the work of the Holy Spirit in our cities, regions, nations.

How:
- Daniel 10:3 describes a vegetable fast, i.e. no meats or sweets. We strongly encourage that type of fast, however, we are mindful that medical conditions and other issues may not allow for it. Please use your discretion and seek the Lord as to His desire. Alternative fasts include no sweets, fasting negative thinking etc.
When: 20 July-10 August 2019, "Straits of Tammuz"
- The fast can be a fast of your choosing i.e., a Daniel fast according to Daniel 10:3; fast of sugar, fast of negative thinking, etc.
- Participation in the fast is an intentional and spiritually catalytic call for consecration to prepare us for an encounter with God.
- Timing confirmation: The dates of 20 July -10 August are historically and biblically significant. The "Straits of Tammuz" are from 17th of Tammuz to the 9th of Av; when the walls of Jerusalem were breached and temple destroyed both in 586 BC and 70 AD. As activity has risen already, and Israel is without a government, we believe this is an important defensive shield to take in the nations as watchmen.

The Purpose and Promises of Fasting and Prayer
Isaiah 58:6-12
“Is this not the fast that I have chosen:
- To loose the bonds of wickedness,
- To undo the heavy burdens,
- To let the oppressed go free,
- And that you break every yoke?
- Is it not to share your bread with the hungry,
- And that you bring to your house the poor who are cast out;
- When you see the naked, that you cover him,
- And not hide yourself from your own flesh?
- ‘If you take away the yoke from your midst,
- The pointing of the finger, and speaking wickedness,
- If you extend your soul to the hungry and satisfy the afflicted soul,
Those from among you
Shall build the old waste places;
You shall raise up the foundations of many generations;
And you shall be called the Repairer of the Breach,
The Restorer of Streets to Dwell In.
